Palm Sunday Spring Walk
A spring walk up through Eccellsall woods, via Whitley Hall and up the Limb valley to the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow, with its amazing views over the city and the Alpaca farm and then back down again. Approx 2-3 hours of walking not including the pub stop!
Date: 1st April Tine: 10.30am set off time Meet: next to the sawmill on Abbey Lane, Eccellsall woods
Date: Sunday 1st April Set off time: 10.30am. ( suggest you arrive by 10.15 latest) Meeting: on the path near the wood sawmill in Eccellsall Woods on Abbey Lane. B6068 Parking: alongside the road in car parking bays, however it is a popular spot so you may have to park further up the road and walk back.
Route: uphill through the woods crossing Eccellsall road south, via Whitley hall, then up the limb valley to the Norfolk arms at Ringinglow for refreshments, then back down again. Distance: approximatley 4-5 miles, around 2-3 hour depending on the pub stop. Grade: level paths but some steady climbs uphill Fee: £1 per dog please. (yearly membership fees have been scrapped)
Please TEXT your attendance no later than the day before the walk, so that numbers can be checked. NB: this walk has been opened to non dog owners from the City Socialising group, who are aware it is a dog walking/social walk.
Under the new guidelines for this group, owners must be responsible for their dogs safety and behaviour at all times. Dogs that are causing a disruption to the group, members of the public or other walkers will be asked to be put on the lead. Please be aware that dogs can get into difficulty or lost if owners are distracted with talking and not observant of their dogs behaviour or location. please check your third party or veterinary insurance to make sure you would be covered for any accidents caused by your dog as I have cancelled the walking group insurance.
Please feel free to make suggestions for the next 6 months of walks, expecially if you know of good routes with no sheep of around 2 hours. I will add them to the list which i'm organising and hope to upload on the website.

Many thanks for your kind support and constructive feedback. Most of you have understood that difficulties i've had in keeping this group running given my other time constraints of running a business, and problems earlier on this year with my own dogs and family and health, and I do hope it continues for the sake of all.

Walk Details
Meeting point : the Sportsman Pub, Lodge Moor Time: meet at 10.15 to start walking at 10.30am Walk: Wyming Brook Distance: Around 4.5 Miles I think! Time: 2 hours approx Refreshments: the Sportsman do a great carvery or hot roast meat cobs and tattties :) Grade: medium with some steep and possibly slippy climbs up Wyming brook and the rocks coming back uphill.

Date : Sunday 18th December Time: 10.30 meet Where: Baslow Car Park on the Goose Green. Walk: Chatsworth park taking in the Hunting tower and lakes and stopping in the courtyard for hot chocolate and mince pies and brass band carols. Howling hounds welcome to sing along :-) Distance: about 5 - 6 miles Grade: Medium - but some steep hills leading up to the Hunting Tower NB: Sheep and Pheasants!

I've finally managed to sit down with the help of Alyson and plan ahead for the next 5 walks up till Xmas! The dates and locations are as follows but you will be sent futher details via email prior to each walk. Please note, if its rains heavily (or Snow!) the walk will be cancelled.
Sunday 14th August - 10.30am - Bradfield Dale. Approximately 6 miles. 3 hours
Sunday 18th September - 10.30am - White Edge, Froggatt and Curbar Edges. Meet at the Grouse Inn. Approximately 5 miles. NB: there will be sheep on the moors.
Sunday 16th October - 10.30 am - Bakewell to Ashford in the the Water follwing the Tissington/Monsal trail. About 6 miles. 3 hours. Meet at the old Station, Station road Car park. Bakewell.
Sunday 20th November - 10.30am - Holmesfield to Totley Brook and Fanshaw manor. Meet at the Church car park, behind the Angel Inn, Holmesfield. About 5 miles.
Sunday 11 18th December - 10.30am - Chatsworth to include festive cheer and mince pies in the courtyard. Meet at Baslow car park. About 6 miles, or 3 hours.

the next walk will be on the 26th June - however I won't be there as I'll be on holiday. I'm hoping that regular walkers Jane, Helen and Neil will be on hand if necessary... but i'm sure you'll all be fine without my presence!

Date: Sunday 26th june Time: 10.30am Location: Bingham park - Circular route leading up the Porter brook valley, meet at the entrance to the park near the roundabout at the junction with Rustlings Road with Oakbrook road, (off Eccellsall road) near the stone cottage gate house. Distance: about 5 miles Duration: aobut 3 hours if you count a drink in the Norfolk arms pub or at the Forge Dam cafe. Refreshments: Norfolk arms pub or Forge Dam Cafe.
Be warned of cycles, joggers and kids near the cafe.

We had a ‘get to know you’ social at the Cricket Inn, Dore and 5 of the new members turned up. Unfortunately the BBq was cancelled due to rain but we all managed to squeeze in around a big table inside.
The end of July walk was on a beautiful sunny day. We started at Shilito Woods car park, off the A621 Sheffield to Baslow road and crossed the open moors towards Owler Bar, the doubled back near Holmesfield and Fox lane through woodland. It was a great walk with lots of free running for the dogs except there were numerous gates which were locked! We had to lift the dogs over 2 of them as there were no stiles, including Cara an Estrela Mountain dog the size of a St Bernard! So that’s a black mark on our list of trialled walks.
August walk details as follows;
Date: Sunday 22nd August Time: 10.30 am Location: Holmesfield and Miilthorpe. Start point: there is a small parking area at the junction of the B6051 at Millthorpe, near the Royal Oak pub. See the link below. Walk details: some hills and valleys, across farmland and through preserved woodlands of South west Sheffield and North Derbyshire. This walk also covers parts of the Dronfield 2000 Rotary walks Distance: 5 miles Duration: approximaltey 2 hours Refreshments: the Royal Oak at Holmesfield
