Walk no. 6 - Monsal trail
Hi all

the next walk will take place on:

Date: Sunday 7th March at 11.30am.

Location: plese park at Bakewell station (on Station road) and we will walk onto the Monsal trail. this is an easy circular walks of 6 miles or so around Bakewell and Ashford in the Water. We can take a late lunch or drinks back in Bakewell or in Ashford in the Water. The dogs should be able to run free for most of this as it is mainly trail but there is some road walking too in Ashford in the Water unless I can find an alternative route back to Bakewell to avoid the roads. Your suggestions welcome.

BBC Radio 4 to Join us on our 4th walk
We are to be joined by Clare Balding and Lucy Lunt from BBC radio 4 so they can do a piece on our Walking group for there Ramblers program. This is very exciting as with us being a new walking group in Sheffield it will help promote our responsible attitude to walking through the country side with our dogs and hopefully encourage other people to follow in our foot steps. Further news of when the broadcast will be aired to follow.

Walk No 4, 27th January Longshaw Estate, Joined by the BBC
Next walk, Date = 27th January, Start time = 9.30-10am, Location= National Trust Longshaw Estate.

Distance = Medium walk estimated 7 miles

Time = Estimated at 3 – 4 hours

Grade = Medium (A walk on stoney public footpaths but does include some steep inclines)

Longshaw Estate, Burbage Edge, Carl Wark, Grindleford cafe and Padley Gorge

We will be starting off at the Longshaw estate car park (the link below shows you how to get there) we will then make our way over to the bottom of Burbage edge. We then walk up the edge footpath about half way before dropping down to a small bridge to cross the stream. From here it’s a steepish incline, which can be quite boggy, up to the back of Carl Wark where if need be we can catch our breath. We may have to have the dogs on their leads through this section as there are sometimes sheep around. From Carl Wark we walk over the moor where we pick up the road, we do have a small section of road walking so dogs will need to be on the leads. After crossing the main road down to Hathersage we pick up a rough farm track that takes us down to the Grindleford station cafe where we can get some refreshment if required. After our refreshments stop we pick up the track at the bottom of Padley Gorge, this is an initial steep incline but after just a short distance changes to a gentle incline to the top of the Gorge. Once we reach the top of the gorge we cross the road in to the Longshaw estate, from here it’s a short walk through the estate back to the car park.

Notes:

As the weather has been so wet lately and the thawing of the snow some areas of the walk may become boggy so it’s essential correct footwear is warn as no one likes wet feet. Also as im sure you all know by now BBC radio 4 will be joining us to do a piece for their Ramblers radio program.

Car park fee £2 all day
